A 20 Year Overnight Success

32 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1.

In a ‘glorified’ broom cupboard’ office above an electrical store (now a pizza shop!). One adviser, a personal assistant and two laptops.

That’s where life began for Capital in 2004 as a fresh new business, created to help clients make the most of their hard-earned wealth and plan for the future.

Fast-forward to Capital today, an established and highly respected boutique firm of independent Chartered Financial Planners with a team of experienced professionals responsible for the careful stewardship of over £500 million of client wealth.

About a year after I set up the firm, I made my first hire, Graham McCulley. Graham was recruited as an adviser to help me handle new client enquiries as we slowly grew the company by word of mouth.

I’m pleased to report that Graham is still with the company as a director and a vital leadership team member.

A couple of years later, I recruited another adviser, Charles Riches. Charles is also still with us, now a Chartered Financial Planner, director and leadership team member.

Another director, Don Fraser, joined a few years later. Don is considered the ‘new boy’ as he’s only been with Capital for 11 years!

Our work with clients is deeply personal, and clients have often told me that the ability to work with the same team over a long period is important.

It’s also quite rare in the modern world, where many people seem to ‘job hop’ every year or two!

Award-winning advice

Over the years, we’ve been recognised in our profession many times. I recently calculated that we had received over 20 independent awards, including the two most prestigious –  ‘Chartered Financial Planning Firm of The Year’ and the ‘David Norton Building Excellence Award’.

These are like the ‘World Cup of Financial Services’, and no company in the UK has won both awards, together with the other trophies we’ve picked up over the last twenty years.

Hopefully, it’s reassuring for you to know that your advisers are held in such high regard by their professional peers.

Of course, we are nothing without you, our loyal clients and I’m incredibly proud that a number of our very first clients remain clients to this day.

Older, wiser, and mainly retired now, we’ve enjoyed working together for over two decades and helping navigate the inevitable ups and downs that life  – and the economy –  can throw at us.

At a time when personal service seems increasingly rare, we will continue to strive to provide you and your family with first-class service and keep earning your trust and respect.

Every family we work with mean the world to us, and we never take the relationship for granted.

The Next Chapter

I’ve never been more optimistic and ambitious about our company than I am today. I know that our work can positively impact the lives of our client families, and we all want to keep doing it for many years to come.

We continue to grow and have recently recruited a new financial planner who will join us next month.

In a few weeks, we move to a fabulous new office in Chancery Lane and look forward to welcoming you there for your next visit.

We now have the capacity for about 8 more clients this year, so please do share our details with anyone you think could benefit from a conversation with us.

Thank You

Whether you’ve been a client for 20 years or 20 days, I’d like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’.

I’m sincerely grateful to you for choosing Capital and continuing to work with us. We’ll always strive to earn your loyalty and provide the best advice and counsel to help you achieve everything important to you.

Here’s to the next 20 years!
